Aethos2: Sub 13lb Dura-Ace Build

Aethos2: Sub 13lb Dura-Ace Build

We just did a tailored Aethos2 build that was below stock price, and sub 13lbs! Come look...

There are a plethora of advantages to doing a tailored build as opposed to going with a 'stock' option. From little things like mixing up the cockpit, or throwing on a new crank youve been checking out, maybe going with a wheelset that youve been eyeing for a long time, a tailored build opens the door for making the bike 'yours', and not going with a 'cookie cutter' option. Something I didnt realize until recently was that on top of all the things mentioned above, doing a tailored build can sometimes help you build a bike not only lighter than the stock version, but if you play your cards right, you can end up reducing the ending price as well.  This isnt a set in stone rule, but I've watched it happen quite a few times recently. Lighter, more personalized, below stock price? Its possible! Have a look at this post build gallery then hop over to our YouTube channel for the build video.

I will be honest, the Aethos 2 is actually my favorite weight weenie frame. Super light, perfect geometry, its a match made in heaven.

A handsome combo: Bjorn Rool Road Bar with a Extralite Hyper Stealth stem.

For the tape and bar ends we chose our house brand ultra-light tape and bar end set. The tape is EVA foam for comfort, the plugs are hollow and 3D printed, the complete set weighs in sub 30grams, which is mind blowing.

Kept the stock post, and went with the Specialized Romin Mirror saddle.

Praxis Doon crank, and Wahoo PowrLink pedals. The doon crank is great because its a filament wound crank, and over a hundred grams lighter than the Dura-Ace, making it a great place to shed some grams, and it also comes in around five hundred dollars less than the Dura-Ace option.

Our housebrand SLR3 Cassette.

KCNC Razor rotors. 74 grams, and not an expensive upgrade at all.

The reserve wheelset is great. 1168 grams, and you get the advantage in strength of a steel spoke, and it also makes traveling and maintenance easy. We got this set with DT180 hubs, which fits the bill for a build like this.

FWB V2 Cages.

The unpainted frame is absolutley stunning in the light.

I love how it turned out.

Finished weight was 12.68lbs.(5.75kg). That is 350grams less than the stock build, a couple thosand less than the stock build, and tailored to the rider!

I personally have been enjoying the Aethos2 builds lately, and if you wanna have us do a tailored build for you, then call us at the warehouse, lets talk and figure out your build.
