A Walk On The Wild Side: Custom Chopper Build

A Walk On The Wild Side: Custom Chopper Build

Beleive it or not, we don't only do lightweight road bikes. Sometimes we like to do something copletely out of the ordinary. Have a look at this custom chopper build!

A few years ago we built a custom chopper for someone who only wanted to ride around their neighborhood as relaxed as possible, and in style. We recently had it in for a little service, and decided that was a good enough time as ever to snap a few pictures. Enjoy!

Custom head badge for the customer('B' for 'Bissell').The 2 pieces of tubing on either side of the steer tube have small lights that install into the ends, adding to the personalized nature of the bike.

Hand sewn saddle and grips.

As you can see it is without a seat tube, which essentially turns it into a softtail. I can confirm the ride is very smooth and soft.

The front hub is an E.C. Stearns hub from 1890. If you look closely you can see the leather dust covers.

Coaster brake hub from the 1920's.

As you can see we are running a skip tooth god and chain (chainring too!). Seeing as how there is no adjustability in how the wheel mounts in the frame, shain tension is taken care of by an eccentric bottom bracket.

Profile crank

Speedplay downhill pedals for the win.

The fork lowers, and handlebar uppers incorporate tubing that was taken from an aircraft landing gear.

With all the focus we put on super light road bikes, its nice to have a little change in pace every now and again, and play with something different, but equally unique and beautiful in its own right. Click on the thumbnail below to watch us brake down the detais of the build in depth!

Until next time, happy riding!
