Building a weight weenie bike is one thing, but building a functional daily driver weight weenie bike at under 5 kilos is a whole different thing. Every part choice requires special attention to the smalles of details. Come look at a Scott addict, which built up to beautifully, and checked all the boxes...
The Scott Addict HMX SL might just very well be the perfect canvas to create a featherweight masterpiece on. Recently we had a request to build a super light bike that was funtional. A bike that was sub 5kilos (around 10 pounds), and that could be a daily rider, and a race ready machine.

Granted all finished up this bike was below legal reacing weight, but being super light while also being able to be the primary daily training bike was at the very top of the priority list.
Have a look through this post build gallery, then hop over to our Youtube channel where you can watch us break down the parts used, and go over the build.
Instead of using the Syncros one piece that normally come on these bikes stock, we opted for the THM Frontale Aero one piece. Our house brand top cap and bolt holding it all together.
Hollow carbon bar ends, because details matter when you want to cut weight, remember that! The Frontale Aero Headmount, 3D printed by THM, and its only 14.5 grams.

Because we didnt use the Syncros combo that normally comes with this frame, we had to have a special transition spacer made so that everything fit together perfectly.

A new favorite around here are these very attractive Grigio Carbonio cranks. Currently they are the lightest in the world. For chainrings we used Extralite Octaramp chainrings.
Braking and shifting was all Dura-Ace, and we decided to do some fun color tuning with the bolts.
The oils slick hugh of these bolts was the perfect compliment for the frame, and also went along nicely with the cassette.

The wheel situation is really neat. Agelist tires with really light TPU tubes, Schmolke TLO rims with carbon spokes...
Extralite Cyber SPD3+ front and rear hubs.

Rotors by Carbon-Ti.

Gelu K3 saddle. 41 grams, comfortable, elegant, handmade in portugal.

Fair Wheel Bikes V3 cage, annodized low profile bolt upgrade.
We are excited with how this bike turned out. It's not often that you can say 'weight weenie' and 'functional' in the same sentence, but this bike was exactley that!

Until next time, happy riding!
