Tucson Leisure Routes & The Loop

Tucson Leisure Routes, The Loop & Bike Paths

Tucson's paved paths, neighborhood bikeways and quieter street connections make it possible to build relaxed rides around the University of Arizona, downtown Tucson, Mercado San Agustín and the Chuck Huckelberry Loop.

Use this page to compare the Full Loop collection, the standalone 60-mile Tucson circuit and official planning maps. These routes work particularly well for visitors, recreational riders and anyone looking for an easier day away from Tucson's faster group rides and major climbs.

The Full Chuck Huckelberry Loop

The Chuck Huckelberry Loop is a connected network of paved shared-use paths following Tucson-area river parks and greenways. It provides access to neighborhoods, parks, trailheads, restaurants and other parts of the city while limiting time spent in automobile traffic.

The collection combines the 60.2-mile Tucson circuit with the north-south Santa Cruz River path continuing into Marana and Oro Valley. Together, the two routes provide a broader view of the Full Loop network.

Our Favorite Leisure Section: Cañada del Oro

When someone asks which part of The Loop to ride purely for the experience, the Cañada del Oro section is usually near the top of the list. The northwest side of the system opens into excellent Catalina Mountain views and offers easy out-and-back options without requiring a complicated route.

Cañada del Oro Riverfront Park is a practical place to begin. From there, head north toward Catalina State Park. Continuing into the park adds climbing and requires the appropriate entrance fee, but it also provides an even better look at the Catalina Mountains.

Before You Ride

Heat & Hydration

Direct sun and dry air can make an easy ride more demanding than expected. Carry enough water and use sun protection. Water bottles, nutrition and ride essentials are available at the 6th Street Location.

Navigation & Repairs

Save the route before leaving and carry basic flat-repair equipment. Intersections and river crossings can be confusing the first time through.

Shared-Path Etiquette

Keep right, announce passes and slow down around pedestrians, dogs, children and riders entering the path.

Choosing a Bike for Leisure Riding

For most leisure riding, a comfortable bike that lets the rider look around is more useful than an aggressive racing position. The right choice depends mainly on distance and whether the route stays on The Loop or adds longer road mileage.
