Women's Cycling Rides in Tucson

Tucson has a deep group-riding culture, and the Women's Shootout has become an important part of that scene. The Saturday ride gives experienced women road cyclists a regular group option with multiple route lengths, while the routes themselves are also excellent choices for riders who want to explore Tucson independently.

We originally created this page in 2024 to support both the Women's Shootout and a monthly Sunday Women's Ride. The organized Sunday series is no longer running, so we have updated the page around the active Women's Shootout while keeping the former Sunday route available for anyone who wants another Tucson road ride to explore.

Tucson Women's Shootout

The Women's Shootout meets Saturday mornings at Mercado San Agustín. It is intended for riders with road-group experience, so riders should be comfortable riding closely with others, maintaining a predictable line and handling changes in pace.

Like Tucson's Original Shootout, start times move throughout the year to account for seasonal temperatures. We use the regular Shootout schedule as our reference, with the Women's Shootout rolling 15 minutes after the A group.

Women's Shootout Routes

The Women's Shootout has both long and shorter route options. The long route follows the same general course as Tucson's Original Shootout, while the shorter route gives riders another option without committing to the full distance.

Groups can separate during the ride, so we recommend knowing your route before starting and being prepared to finish independently.

Former Sunday Women's Ride

We also used to host a monthly Sunday Women's Ride from Fair Wheel Bikes. That organized series is no longer running, so we do not want to present old dates or imply that a group is still meeting.

We are keeping the route available because it still makes a good Tucson road ride for anyone who wants to explore it independently.

Before Joining the Women's Shootout

The Women's Shootout is a road group ride rather than a beginner social ride. Riders should be comfortable riding in a group, maintaining a steady line, communicating hazards and responding safely when the pace changes.

Bring enough water and food for your chosen distance, flat-repair supplies, sun protection and a charged phone. Know the route before leaving Mercado and be prepared to finish independently if the ride breaks into smaller groups.

Tucson temperatures change considerably through the year, which is why the ride moves earlier during the warmer months and later as temperatures cool.
